Melafestivalen!

I just woke up after sleeping 9 hours! Yesterday evening I went with C., a Finnish girl, who I met here, to the Melafestival, which is an, how I understood it, intercultural festival, with artist mainly from India and Africa performing! Sadly I didn't bring my camera with me, so no pictures today!

Anyways, the evening started with C. coming here and us cooking and eating together. The deal was, since I brought the food, she would bring the wine. Sadly, my recipe was not matching the wine or vice versa and so we had water with the food. However, we agreed to have the wine after the dinner outside on the balcony.

It was a really good wine and it was still beautiful weather and mild temperatures. So we sat out there, talking, laughing and drinking. When the bottle was empty it was already pretty late, which we just did not realize, since it was still so light. We then made our way down to the Rådhusplassen and Aker Bygge. We were first strolling around Aker Brygge and sat down at the by the water line and then turned back towards Rådhusplassen, where the big stage was.

When we came there, a huge crowd was in front of the stage. We made our way as far to the front as possible and were just dancing to the tunes. It was funny, suddenly we both felt like in the middle of a Bollywood movie. The artists were all from India and so was the crowd. Everybody was dancing and having a good time. A lot of the people were looking at us and basically asking what we were doing there. We were the only not-Indian people there dancing and having a good time. The others were first wondering, but then really appreciating, that we were there and had a good time with "their" music. They all were showing how to dance on the music and were teaching us moves. It was so much fun and - in fact - an intercultural exchange!

When the concert was over, the area of the festival emptied quickly, but since it was still early in the night we decided to go for another beer or two. So we were strolling around the city, looking at Oslo at night and the crowds of people strolling around like us. It is amazing, what such a warm late summer evening does to the people. Everybody comes out of their houses and is happy. We then sat down outside one bar, had a beer and were drinking and chatting again about everything and anything.

When it got chilly we decided, that the only way to get warmer was to walk around the city again. So we left the terrace of the bar and made our way along the train station towards the Opera. You can walk up onto the roof and have a nice view over Oslo. Last time I have been there during the day, when it was super crowded, now it was really nice to see the Opera and the square in front nearly deserted.

It was nice to see the city during the night and I will for sure go there again at some point to take some pictures of nightly Oslo. However, up there on top of the iceberg - what the Opera house is supposed to look like - was a pretty cold wind and so we didn't stay long. I then walked C. home and walked then home myself, had some more of the dinner, had a shower and then to bed!

It was a really nice evening and I really enjoyed the time. Now I am going to start cooking pea soup, since the peas are already a little bit too long in the water soaking. Then I guess I will sit outside on the balcony enjoying the nice weather!
