Eifel Tour!

After going to one of the numerous carnival parties yesterday evening A. and I slept long this morning. The evening was fun; we went first to the tent, were dancing and when the party was over were walking around the city homewards. On the way we stopped to eat some fries, which were really good.
Anyways, this morning we decided to go to Monschau, a small, picturesque village in the Eifel. Monschau is tucked away in the very narrow valley of the river Rur and you can easily explore it within one hour or even less.
A. and I went there around noon, took the car of my dad and parked it just above the castle. We walked down the steep streets, stopped by the castle, which nowadays is the youth hostel of Monschau and then walk through the narrow cobblestone streets to the city center.
We walked around the streets and checked the menus of the restaurants. It was already early afternoon and we hadn't had lunch yet. After walking around the whole center - which doesn't take more than 10-15 minutes - we went back to one restaurant, whose terrace was full of people. We sat down, A. had a nice salad and I had a Schnitzel Monschauer Art; Monschau has a long history in producing mustard and so the Schnitzel was with a delicious mustard sauce.

Anyways, after the nice lunch we walked up to the Haller Ruin, which sits on a steep rock above the city. From there we had a nice view over the small town. The sun was breaking through the thick mist and created a mystic and picturesque atmosphere.
From Monschau we took the road along the Rursee and the Rur-valley through the Eifel and Hürtgenwald back to Aachen. It was a really nice ride on the bendy roads and I just wished I had done this tour with the motorcycle. I'm really looking forward to the summer and hope my brother has the motorcycle fixed by then!
