A day at the beach!

This was exceptional! Simple as! I just came back after about 6 hours at a beach on Bygdøy! This is wonderful spot here in Oslo! I had such a great time!

After I posted this morning I fixed myself and made my way just around the corner to pick up a bike. Here in Oslo they have a really good bike sharing system, you pay once a fee of a couple of Kronor and the you can rent a bike for a maximum of three hours! You can pick the up from numerous stations all around the city and can leave it at another, you dont have to bring it back to the same one, which is convenient!Anyways, since I do not have a bike my plan was to rent one for a couple of hours and then go quickly in between to the closest rental station to change it to another, but I was too lazy, when we were at the beach. So now I have one penalty point on the card, which is ok. You can have three until it gets blocked!

So back to the story; I picked up a bike and was lucky. There was just one bike left at the station and there was a man coming, while I was taking it out, being disappointed, since he also needed a bike and there was none left!

I made my way down to L's flat, where we met up to then go to the beach. We were packing the last stuff, the grill and the meat and everything we needed and were then setting off to the peninsula. It was a really nice ride along the waterline, between yacht harbor and one of the highway rings of Oslo.We came to the peninsula and passed by the Norsk Folkemuseum, where I got a new bike, just to win some more time, which in the end would not have been necessary!Anyways, we then went to the beach and found us a nice spot a little bit away from the masses on the slate! We set up the grill and went for a swim! It was lovely weather and nice water! After being in Finland now so long and swimming there in the Baltic Sea I have to say, that the water here is fresher! It's hard to describe, but it is simply like that! After the swim we were drying in the sun and were barbecuing! It was so nice to finally have something grilled again. The last time I grilled was in Finland and this is now nearly five weeks ago!We were there on the beach, were enjoying the sun, swimming every now and then and reading, chatting and laughing. I really felt good talking to L's friends and had the feeling we came along quite well! Now I am really considering to go with them to Stavanger, since L. asked me a couple of days ago if I would like to come as well!We stayed there on the beach until 7 pm and went then slowly home. I still went to L's flat, she wanted to have the pictures I took and I also still had stuff of her, that I took in my backpack! Now I am home, just had a shower, some dinner and was talking to A. I now have another flatmate, he just arrived and is now arranging his stuff, which his parents and his brother brought a couple of days ago!

I will now finish my beer and watch a movie or something. I have to be fit for work tomorrow!

Afrikan Tähti

Yesterday in the late afternoon, after A. had a nap, we decided to finally play Afrikan Tähti. We've been planning this for so long already. I've been asking over and over again, but we somehow never found the time. The game is a very traditional Finnish board game, so to say a cult-game, and I got to know it over the TV-series Madventures. When the guys of the show were traveling through Africa they all the time were talking about horseshoes and gem stones and were showing a weird map of Africa. Then one day, when I was working in the German School in Helsinki I saw exactly this weird map and was then doing some "research".

So, we were playing then several rounds, but soon it got boring and we decided to change it into a drinking game. We made up rules and had a lot of fun.
The new rules

Since it sometimes takes a long time until the Afrikan Tähti is found (see description on Wikipedia), the first round of the drinking game took some time and we were already tipsy.

Then we suddenly were hungry and decided to grill. However, we also agreed to play another round of the drinking-version of the game again after eating. That time again was a very long round and it took us very long to find the Afrikan Tähti.

Anyways, we had a really nice evening and a lot of fun. Afrikan Tähti as a game already is fun, but the drinking-version was getting better with every round.~M~

Stormy Spring

It is incredible windy here in Helsinki. It feels more like October than April. Even tho the day started off nice it got worse. It was raining and just disgusting weather.

Therefore I stayed in basically the whole day. I just went over to the other building to bring my laundry, to get it out and put it into the dryer and get it out of the dryer. Around 1 o'clock I went to Pasila with S., E. and M. We were asked to give a small presentation of our experiences as exchange students to the new tutors. It was really nice, since we could give them advices and recommendations what they could do different in the future. The organizers actually said, that our short speeches were the best part of the whole day and were giving the most information!

It was also nice to meet new people. Since we just know our tutors it was good to see other Finnish people. We also invited them directly to our BBQ afternoon tomorrow here in Kannelmäki.

A. is now packing all her stuff again. After two weeks here in Hesa she is going back to Turku for one week. I am pretty happy that she has been here, since I like her ;-) and she was helping with my Swedish presentation. I wrote my text and have the presentation half way ready. I really love this language and my text had just few (like 3 or 4) mistakes in it. I am so proud!

BBQ-time

Today we had a barbecue here in Kannelmäki. Even tho there is still a lot of snow we met with about 30 people in the park between the houses and grilled some stuff. It was basically just a nice get-together with the other ERASMUS students and I really enjoyed talking to people.

Now I just got back from the city. I went with A. to grab a burger and buy some bread. Then we walked back from the central station to Pasila and took the train from there. It was a nice walk at a nice spring-like evening. The temperatures were still mild (for Helsinki) and the birds were singing.

This was a really good Easter Monday. I am actually now supposed to read some stuff for the group meeting tomorrow, but actually I dont feel like it. Will do it tomorrow shortly before the meeting! Like always, shortly before deadline!
